Windows XP Pro SP2 users ... ======================== We have been informed of some difficulty with Windows XP Pro SP2 and our firmware updater. Please read the following..... ------------------------- I copied the file, mscomm32.ocx, into C:\Windows\System, then installed the firmware updater software. Next, I was directed to connect the AXis to the PC with a USB cable then run the firmware updater application... As soon as I connected the AXis to the PC though, that's where things got interesting. Windows XP saw the device as an MM232R USB Module and launched its New Hardware Wizard to install drivers for the device. There were no drivers for this device that Windows could find in its system, or by looking on the web. However, after manually searching the web for the MM232R USB Module drivers, I finally found them, and had to install the ones from the below web for the firmware updater software to see the serial driver ports: Future Technology Devices International Ltd. Virtual COM Port Drivers http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm Without the above drivers, the AXis, as an MM232R USB Module, was not installed or working with the PC, and therefore when I ran the firmware updater, it couldn't see any ports at all Ð the drop-down list had no COM ports listed. Once the drivers were installed for this device, then the updater worked straight away and took about 3 minutes to finish the upgrade to 4.2. Perhaps this info would be useful to other AXis users.
